Hi! I’m AJ Young, co-owner of Co-Create Studio in Fennville, MI. At Co-Create Studio we cultivate personal and community well-being through creativity and creative practice. We help people and communities connect to their purpose, authenticity, and integrity through craft, yoga, and community engagement. Our work is grounded in multiple ways of knowing including scientific research, community wisdom, and intuition and personal experience to tap into the innate creativity of us all.

My teaching experience runs from textiles & fiber art, to general crafting, to the university classroom. I’m on the teaching roster for multiple craft conferences, including Craftcation and Makit Together, and teach in-person at various locations along the West Michigan Lakeshore. I love to collaborate with other quilters and am available for guild presentations and workshops.

I’ve been crafting since I was very young, but started knitting seriously in 2014 while working on my dissertation. That led to taking classes in quilting and bag-making and I was hooked. I like to dabble in pretty much anything with fiber or textiles - dyeing, weaving, crochet, etc. - but also has a longstanding love for printmaking & mixed media, especially when fabric is involved. I love exploring different sewing and quilting techniques, especially those that encourage play and experimentation.

My Workshop

Come learn an easy, scrap-friendly way to make quilted items – using the Quilt As You Go (QAYG) technique. In this session we’ll make a placemat as we learn the QAYG technique and you’ll leave the workshop with a one of a kind finished product. Participants will learn how to make a basic log cabin pattern, as well as experiment with some improv sewing. QAYG is a fun technique for using up all those fabric scraps left over from other projects, reducing waste while making useful gifts and home décor items to keep or share! QAYG is great for folks with all levels of sewing experience – from beginner to expert.
