Growing up in Saskatchewan, I always had my hands on one type of craft or another. Despite my mother being a skilled seamstress, I was never going to sew. However, never say never as fate had other plans for my creative journey. It wasn't until I found myself in the Canadian Arctic working as a flight nurse that I stumbled upon the wonderful world of quilting and was hooked. Little did I know that this newfound passion would accompany me across continents.

In the remote expanses of the Australian Outback, my sewing machine hummed, I stepped into the world of designing and soaked up all kinds of inspiration from my unique surroundings. Returning to Canada, I developed my label, Quilts by Jen. I am a designer, teacher, speaker, pattern writer, blogger and magazine contributor. I draw inspiration from the world around me, infusing my quilts with color, texture, and movement. My art combines traditional and non-traditional techniques, utilizing various textiles and embellishments.

I have an obsession for colour, value and fabric runs. I can spend hours in my studio creating fabric runs and making a mess. Using all the colours under the rainbow I infuse these fabric runs into much of my work whether it be in a block, border, Bargello or an art quilt. They are so much fun I just couldn’t stop after creating the first one many years ago.

From my off-grid studio in the Canadian Shield, I teach and share my passion for quilting surrounded by the beauty that inspires me. My classes are not just lessons; they are immersive journeys into the heart of quilting, where art meets technique, and passion meets joy. My Workshop

In my workshop, Create Fabric Runs Fearlessly I will help you overcome the obstacles that hinder you choosing fabrics with colour and value in mind. I’ll teach you techniques that instil confidence to choose fabrics effortlessly. I’ll show you how to choose a selection of fabrics from light to dark, using value to build up the run and create an eye-catching set of fabrics. I’ll walk you through my process step-by-step.

First, I’ll guide you on how to choose fabrics with confidence, providing plenty of tips and tricks. We’ll spend some time exploring the world of color and value, demystifying the process and making it more enjoyable.

Once we’ve gathered our fabrics, I’ll show you how to arrange them into stunning color runs that flow seamlessly from one fabric to the next. And don’t worry, perfection isn’t the goal here. It’s all about creating something visually pleasing and satisfying.

Throughout our journey, I’ll also demonstrate how these fabric runs can be incorporated into your quilts, sparking inspiration and creativity. So, let’s embrace fearless creativity together and dive into the world of fabric runs. Trust me, once you start, you won’t be able to stop.
