I love all the artsy things. The smell of markers and the click they make as they cap and uncap. The texture of paint as I move it across a surface. The faint scratchy feel of a micro pen across a textured paper. Fabric stores, with their smorgasbord of color, pattern, and texture, have always been as energizing and tempting as art stores and museums. My creative background is a testament to exploration, from color theory and drawing classes in college to torn paper collage, encaustic, acrylics, photography, and printmaking. But I’ve always returned to needle and thread when I was looking for connection, comfort, and creativity.

My stitching journey began early by learning how to embroider like my grandmother and great-grandmother. I’ve stitched and sewn my way through good times and not-so-good times, through college, parenting, divorce, a pandemic, and a remarriage. I make all kinds of things with fabric and thread from art quilts that hang in gallery exhibitions to weirdly personal little scrap fabric sketches that no one will ever see but me. I’ve learned that I need to be making things, not to have things to show, sell, give, or use, but simply for the power of creative rhythm in my life. It helps me think, process, understand, learn, and love. It grows me in hands, mind, and heart. I love so many things! Rain, challenging hikes and slow country strolls, any beach when it’s not crowded, twinkle lights, flowers, snuggly quilts (of course!), BBQ, books,rainy days, exploring new places, learning new things, and stand-up paddleboarding. Oh, and color. And deep conversations. And stories. And bonfires with S’mores. And laughing. So many things… I’m a Middle Tennessee artist, speaker, and designer learning to live well in a constantly changing world. I believe strongly in the power of both nature and the expressive arts to help us thrive as people. I hope I can contribute to your creative journey!

Currently, I teach fiber arts online virtually and in person. I have also taught at the prestigious Houston International Quilt Festival. In 2015, I appeared on Quilting Arts TV and wrote for numerous quilting arts publications. My work has appeared in several books on art quilting, such as Art Quilts International, Abstract & Geometric, and Patchwork Professional Feb. 2024.

My Workshop

In this workshop, I'll encourage you in your creative journey, dispel some creativity myths, share strategies to grow your creative spark, and teach you how to cultivate your uniquely-you creative rhythm. Throughout, we’ll also be exploring a relaxed, childlike sense of creative play. You'll learn why creativity is so vital for mental health, well-being, and personal growth and hear stories about the power of expressive art making from the cutting edge field of neuroaesthetics. We'll explore practical strategies to nurture your creativity and share common creativity killers which will derail your best creative intentions. You'll learn how to cultivate an environment conducive to creative flow and most importantly, I’ll set you on the path to designing your own personalized creative practice. One tailored to your unique quilting interests and lifestyle. You’ll leave with a renewed appreciation for the profound impact of creativity and equipped with tools to make it an integral part of your life.
